What is STEMpowering Young Women, Inc.?
STEMpowering Young Women, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing guidance, support, and scholarship opportunities for young women pursuing STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) two- or four-year degrees. The organization was founded in 2020 to honor the life and impact of Sharon Sanders, and offers two $2,500 stipends per year to qualified candidates.

What is the purpose of the yearly scholarship?
To honor Sharon’s legacy of helping people with potential in difficult situations to achieve their educational goals and facilitate their long-term confidence and success.
Who is eligible for this scholarship?
The scholarship will be awarded to graduating American female high-school seniors who have been admitted to college in STEM-related fields. Priorities will be given to candidates displaying:
– High STEM-related performance or potential
– Economic need
How is the scholarship funded?
The scholarship is funded through private donations.
Is the scholarship renewable, or a one-time stipend?
Each award is a one-time payment of $2,500 to the candidate’s institution of choice. Successful candidates are encouraged to apply throughout their college experience.
